“I am suffering from a very serious illness known by the name of eroticism.”
(Molinier)
Pierre Molinier's photographs present his transvestite double relentlessly in what he called “ Masses of love". The artist aspired to an ideal form of androgyny, depicting legs sheathed in black stockings in a fetishisation and fragmentation of the body, further enhanced by the photomontage process. Retouched and repainted, his images challenge public morality, expressions of an art lived out in the artist's own body, torn, in his own words, between ecstasy and nothingness.
