For the Benefit of all the Races of Mankind (Mos' Specially the Master One, Boss) An Exhibition of Artifacts, Remnants, and Effluvia EXCAVATED from the Black Heart of a Negress I
2002
Reduced to simple strokes and colours, this strange body fragment becomes almost abstract.
Gary Hume belongs to the group of Young British Artists which emerged in the early 1990s. He contributed ta the renewal of pictorial language through his innovative use of colour. line and surface. His large-scale works are composed of layers of industrial lacquer on aluminium panels. Although based on a photograph, this scene depicting a cheerleader's arm before
a half-moon is rather a pretext for a rich play of colours than any attempt to represent reality.
