Hybrid Song Box 4
2008
Angela Bulloch’s work is based on a critical reinterpretation of conceptual and minimal art in the 1960s. Her work draws on sophisticated digital and electronic technology. The artist interacts lights with sound, video, text and objects in order to explore the way we perceive and interpret different types of information. Since 2000, she has produced “ Pixel Boxes”, small lit boxes programmed to generate 16 million different colours in a given sequence. Hybrid Song Box.4 comprises four perforated cubes crossed by the coloured lights of the Pixel Boxes and by the sounds of guitar solos played by David Grubbs. This structure plays with our perception and pays tributes to Op art and to the work of Bridget Riley.
