This work references Carl Andre, the minimalist American artist who revolutionised the concept of sculpture in 1966 with his Equivalents.
Since 2004, the Claire Fontaine artist duo has questioned political impotence and the crisis of singularity in contemporary art. Here Claire Fontaine reprises the form and layout of Carl Andre's Equivalents, with rectangular blacks of 120 bricks positioned on the floor. She covers each brick with a reproduction of a cover from 120 Folio essays. The works were chosen for their content, and for the images on the covers which establish links between them and the titles.
