Form Phases II
1953
The work of American filmmaker, painter and sculptor Robert Breer is all concerned with geometric abstraction, his interest in movement and the transformation of forms finding expression in mobiles, flip books, and films in which painting plays a crucial role. The two-dimensionality of the painted and cut-out forms used in the series of Form Phasesevokes the flat surface of the painting, while the rapid succession of images offers a decomposed and fragmented version of it.
