Alice
printemps 1933 - été 1933
Exhibited at the Galerie Pierre in 1934, as La Toilette de Cathy, Alice convokes a more frontal and disturbing erotism, but also fueled with strangeness.
The figure, whose model is Betty Holland, wife of Pierre Leyris, friend of the artist, disconcerts by its nude body with child-like feet, its face with a blind and unconscious look, that contrast with the adult sex crudely offered to the look, "a piece of painting of such an exact precision, of such an intense carnality", quoting the critic Pierre Jean Jouve, that it places irremediably the viewer in the uncomfortable position of a voyeur.
