Antonín Procházka was an active member of several Czech avant-garde movements. But from the Twenties onwards, he took a radically different path, turning back to the art of the portrait. He thus rediscovered a decorative element, as well as Czech folk art and the pictorial qualities of older techniques. Young girls, echoing Greek sculptures, are a recurring motif in the numerous allegories with a mythological influence produced by Procházka throughout the Thirties.
