Scene for new heritage III, serie B
2006
David Maljkovic’s work is a reflection on historical forgetting. His Scenes for a New Heritage III revolves around the “Freedom-Fighters’ Monument” erected at Petrova Gora in the 1970s, dedicated to the memory of the Yugoslav heroes of the Second World War. But after the disintegration of Yugoslavia in the 1990s, the country’s shared history vanished away and its monuments lost their symbolic value. The artist attempts here to invent new rituals that would bring new life to this forgotten monument.
