Leandro Mbomio came from a family of Fang sculptors in Equatorial Guinea. He continued his studies in Spain, and formed friendships with artists including Dalí, Garcia Marquez and Pablo Neruda. He was nicknamed the “Black Picasso”. His sculpture possesses considerable expressive power, with lines simplified to the point of abstraction. Manifestation is one of his most accomplished works.
