For Kallat, the city of Mumbai is a subject of study that allows him to address the disasters of globalisation and urbanisation.
Baggage Claim includes several references to this megalopolis, such as the gargoyles used to hang the painting that imitate the ones in Mumbai central station. The survival of the individual in the city is a recurrent theme in Jitish Kallat's work. lt is addressed through this group of men whose hair is composed of elements of urban chaos and whose bodies are surrounded by imagery of destruction, such as a damaged car and a small building covered in flies symbolising the deterioration of housing.
