Tête paysage
[1924 - 1926]
André Breton hailed "the lightness of a swallow" in Arp's forms, whose "colours resemble the warbling of love".
Tête Paysage forms part of a series of reliefs that Jean Arp would later describe as "language-objects". Whether clouds, hands or wings, these soft forms derive from the observation of nature while they manifest the influence of African, Oceanic or rock
art which fascinated the Surrealists at the time. The bright colours and the apparent simplicity of this relief charge this work with humour and poetry.
