Femme à la harpe
[avant 1932]
Meˇstrovic´ embodied the heroic figure of national art in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. A pupil of Rodin who had studied at the Fine Arts School in Vienna, he produced monumental commissions from Zagreb to Chicago. In 1931, together with the architects Harold Bilinic and Lavoslav Horvat, he designed a neo-classical villa decorated with mythical figures in Split. Woman with a harp reproduces one of the panels of the villa’s Ionic portico. This high relief in bronze is given rhythm by graphic undulations and play with smooth areas.
