(Arbre de 7mètres)

With his Trees, Penone seeks to make the energies, transformations and memory of nature visible.
In the early 1970s, Giuseppe Penone cut away at half of a block of squared timber to reveal the exact form of the original tree trunk and branches at a given moment in its growth. He developed this carving work and trees presentation in different ways, playing on the opposition between positive and negative, full and empty, visible and hidden. This pair is composed of sections of the same beam presented head to tail. The ends, left uncarved, form a plinth and provide stability for the tree pointing upwards and downwards.
