"When I work I caress the work to feel the tensions."
Agostino Bonalumi, a Milanese avant-garde artist in the 1950s-1960s, explores the physical possibilities of the monochrome canvas through sophisticated relief effects. He goes so far as to fashion the surface to achieve an autonomous shape, this ambitious work being an emblematic example. A tactile sensuality of the forces in action is expressed through its geometrical, organic and pictorial qualities. Bianco (White) is intended as the emergence of a light-colour becoming form.
