[avant 1961]
''l'm a sculptor who works very slowly and little by little l find a balance that suits me, and l continue to work until l find that balance."
Gérard Mannoni's earliest non-figurative research was exhibited in the Breteau gallery in 1953. He was part of the Groupe Espace at the time and frequented André Bloc and the architects Pierre Vago and Claude Parent. He moved toward monumental stone, concrete and steel sculpture. The Colette Allendy gallery dedicated a first solo exhibition to him in 1958. That same year, Mannoni worked with Parent on a workshop project in Paris, then, in 1960, on a hotel project in Corsica.
