Christodoulos Panayiotou draws in his work on the history and development of Cyprus, the island of his birth, seeing them as illustrative of the socio-cultural issues faced by contemporary society. The installation 2008 consists of a heap of shredded banknotes, the Cypriot pounds that disappeared with the introduction of the euro in January 2008. In showing this mountain of waste paper, Panayiotou highlights the importance of the event in the history of Cyprus. The local currency is now reduced to a shifting and unstable mass, a memory of times gone by.
