Corporate (4 knives groups)

The work of Chinese artist Xu Zhen explores the function and circulation of media images. For Corporate (4 knives groups), he made a sculpture in the form of a knife which he then photographed before destroying it. The installation is a 3-D presentation of this photographic motif, blown up into four cut-out trompe-l’oeil images suggesting in their ensemble a chain of mountains. In this work evoking the reproducibility and integrity of the image, Xu Zhen continues the line of thought initiated with the “True Image” series begun in 2010, where pieces created during exhibitions were destroyed and only a photographic record retained.
