herman de vries created his first white monochrome works between 1958 and 1960. This series of six sculptures is close to the research of the NUL and Zero groups on reducing the involvement of the artist. Through the abject placed in space, he develops a very reduced formai language. The chromatic reduction and affirmation of elementary geometric volumes is the result
of his discovery of Zen Buddhism, which makes the Void the manifestation of the presence of All. ln 1962 he published his first books, including wit [white], a two-hundred-page volume consisting of blank pages.
