These photographs presenting uncanny sculptures of body parts were designed by the artist as a form of self-portrait.
ln her works, composed often of photographic series, Grzeszykowska questions the female identity and condition. She establishes and stages a dialogue between her own experience and references to the worlds of art or popular culture. For Selfie, the artist recreated parts of her body with pigskin and fixed her youth in these sculptures, at the very instant she began to spot the first signs of ageing. This series recalls the alterations which the Polish sculptor Alina Szapocznikow (1926-1973) inflicted on the female body in particular.
