Étienne Chambaud’s approach draws on the tradition of Conceptual art. Les Coloristes coloriés is a series of screenprints based on archival images of the colourists who in the early days of cinema, before the invention of colour film, colourized black and white works, adding colour by painting directly onto the film stock. Étienne Chambaud borrows this technique to apply it to the colourists in the picture, turning their faces and hands pink using acrylic paint.
