Lebanese Rocket Society
2012
Artists Joanna Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige cast a critical eye on the recent history of their country, Lebanon, in works that deal with questions of image, archive and memory. With their Lebanese Rocket Society they reflect on the rediscovered archives of a national space exploration programme that organised rocket launches between 1960 and 1967. In staging the transport through Beirut of this rocket resembling a military missile, the artists explored contemporary fears stemming from the country’s experience of war.
