Ljubljana, Slovénie
2004
Martin Parr’s photography was commissioned by the Magnum Photos agency, which in 2004 asked ten photographers each to visit one of the ten countries that had recently joined the European Union. Taking a very personal approach, the artist explores what was at stake for Slovenia in this major political step. He highlights the transformations and disruptions undergone by this formerly Communist country, looking notably at the tension between local particularisms and the drive to globalisation.
