In his abstract, all-over compositions without centre or periphery, the Norwegian artist Fredrik Værslev seeks to recreate the effect of Italian terrazzo flooring. His works all make use of industrial paint, together with such products as anti-rust paint, tar, fixative and white spirit. Once finished, he puts them outside, as did Norwegian Expressionist painter Edvard Munch (1863-1944). It is the reaction of the materials to the weather (rain, hail, snow…) that completes the works, in which chance plays an essential role.
