Volcano Painting, Flora
2011
Through various artistic techniques, Jessica Warboys explores a poetic space linked to the experience of memory. Using a process that establishes a relationship between ordinary objects and memories, she brings out a story that reflects an abstract sensation. Her explorations in painting are particularly original. The "Sea Paintings" are produced in the open air. The motifs represented – elements of landscapes, creatures from the past, flashes, shadows and reflections – all mingle and endeavour to work together. To create them, the artist covers a canvas with pigments, then submerges it in the water and leaves the currents and waves to do their work. After a while she removes the canvas, which she dries in the sun and irons before exhibiting it – but as something fleeting and uncertain, like Volcano Painting, Flora, which she created in Stromboli.
