A British photographer who has lived in the United States since 2002, Paul Graham today makes work strongly influenced by Walker Evans and the American tradition of street photography. Shot in different locations across the United States from 2004 onwards, the series “A Shimmer of Possibility” consists of a number of sequences of two to ten images, each capturing one or more characters as they go about their lives. Open, fragmentary narratives hinged upon everyday acts and events, these pictures offer multiple points of view on a shifting reality, no single picture providing as adequate an image of it as the sequence taken as a whole.
