Paysage tourmenté
[vers 1903]
González portrays a landscape in which areas of rocks, trees and clouds seem to vibrate beneath the effects of an approaching storm.
Fascinated by the rocky landscapes of the forests of Fontainebleau and Clamart, Joan González produced numerous pastel, gouache and charcoal works in which tormented nature stretches out in all its solitude. Other drawings testify to his nostalgia for the villages nestling in the mountains, near Barcelona. In 1903, one of his sculptures, Catalan Fisherman, was exhibited at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts and, the following year, two of his paintings and four gouaches were selected at the Autumn Salon. The six works were landscapes titled Memory of my Country, a sign of the painter’s attachment to Catalonia.
