A Romanian poet who wrote in French, Gherasim Luca was born in Bucharest in 1913. He lived in Paris during the Thirties, and moved back there permanently in 1952. As well as writing poetry, Luca created Surrealist-inspired objects, and produced drawings, collages and photographic montages. In the Sixties he began making a huge collection of unrelated old photographs, assembling them in albums and portfolios. The portfolio presented contains sixteen pictures of Brazil.
