Farah Atassi’s painting is an ambitious synthesis of different influences that have inspired the artists: Piet Mondrian, Kazimir Malevitch, Fernand Léger. The spaces in her work are inhabited by ambiguous objects arranged in surprising perspectives. The scenes appear to be motionless although the spaces are playful. “My spaces give the impression of being carefully planned, but in fact I have used only a few lines and orthogonal shapes here and there. These structures reflect a desire to control, to channel pleasure”. Evocations of industrial buildings include references to modernist geometric painting in pure colours, half way between figuration and abstraction.
