Bianco Bichon
(Bichon blanc)

This work is part of Tursic & Mille's reflection on the iconic in art.ln their paintings, Ida Tursic & Wilfried Mille recycle media images to interrogate the profusion of the contemporary spectacle. The little white dog known as the Bichon was a favourite of painters from Albrecht Dürer to Gustave Courbet before becoming a symbol of kitsch, a victim of its own popularity. Here it has been painted on wood, cut out, and mounted on a small block to be shown as a sculpture whose unfinished wooden back remains visible. The exaggerated size and serious air of the dog underline the absurdity of the presentation, an affront to good taste.
