Ghenie uses archive images to construct complex pictorial compositions that tthe viewer is invited to decipher.This work was conceived from two different sources: the woman who has just had a pie thrown in her face was inspired by a scene from a 1941 film by the American group The Three Stooges, while the setting was based on postcards of Hitler's new Reich Chancellery built in 1939. lnitially comical, the scene provokes a sense of unease. This feeling is reinforced by the brushstrokes that blur the image, like scratches on a film.
