The imaginative universe of Romanian artist Victor Man draws on historical facts and subjective experiences from different times and places. Suggesting embroidery in its filiform composition, this deliberately enigmatic stained glass window features graphic elements inspired by the fate of an obscure 17th-century artist named Guiseppe Sacchi and by stanza 13 of the second canto of Les Chants de Maldoror (1869) – the work of the poet Lautréamont (1846-1870) – which describes fantastical scenes taking place during a violent storm at sea.
