This erudite accumulation of Hebraic signs, anthropomorphic and chimeric ideograms was described by its author as an "alchemical alphabet".
Gabriel Pomerand was a notorious and subversive figure, an embodiment of the spirit of riotous partying that characterised Saint Germain-des-Prés in the immediate post-war period. Nicknamed "Archangel Gabriel" by his Lettrist friends in order to hail the pertinence of his intuition and to underscore the dazzling intensity of his progression in the group, he was one of the authors of the first Lettrist hypergraphic paintings. The signs of Le Voyage are fully deciphered in a poem that begins: "The pen is a voyage inscribed ..."
