"What Piranesian despair it is to be aware of the vanity of things that are there to represent the obsolete seasons of humankind." (Cantàfora)
For the 15th Milan Triennial in 1973, painter and architect Arduino Cantàfora exhibited La Città Analoga, a work measuring 7m long and 2m high which presented an urban landscape composed of multiple architectural references. The AEG plant by Peter Behrens rubbed shoulders with the Pantheon of Rome and works by Aldo Rossi, etc. For the 1980 Venice Biennale, Cantàfora painted another urban landscape of similar style and size, La Città Banale.
