"The daily quest for an architectural utopia is not a frame of mind, but a necessity." (Parent)
The house of the caretaker of the André Bloc house-workshop in Meudon is the result of Bloc's fecund collaboration with Claude Parent, a young architect. The two buildings share the same freedom in the layout of the plan and the alternation of opacity and transparency. Parent introduced an interplay of formal correspondences with the main residence. The caretaker's house stands lower down on the terrain, on a single level that is partially positioned on piles. Bloc chose to establish his workshop in this vast sheltered space at garden level.
