Anne Collier is an artist who makes play with the snaps produced by the "society of the spectacle". One of her recurring strategies is to make use of already existing images, mostly from the visual industry. She collects record sleeves, photos from films, cuttings from the illustrated press, postcards, found photographs and books, then photographs them like "murder weapons", enlarged on a white background. In this form, they become evidence of racism, voyeurism or sexism. This is the case with Negative (California), a negative version of a photo found on eBay.
