Skulptural
1988 - 1989
Hannah Villiger graduated in sculpture from the Schule für Gestaltung in Lucerne in 1974 and worked conscientiously as a photographer between 1980 and 1997. With her sculptor’s eye, she chose her own body as the main subject of her photographic research and used direct, simple and rapid Polaroid technology. His Polaroid photographs, that she calls “Skulptural”, are then enlarged and frequently assembled as polyptyches. These assemblies, which bear the generic title “Block”, intertwined fragments and parts of his own body without narcissism or prudishness; the artist forges entangled shapes exaggerated through her camera lens and the use of lighting devices. “We are born nude, one only has oneself and that oneself is what gives us everything”, she explains.
