Le Strutture Tremano
1979
Marked with regular undulations, the legs of this pedestal table seem to be trembling as if seeking balance.
For the "Bau.Haus" exhibition by Studio Alchimia in 1979, alongside his Cargo furniture, Ettore Sottsass presented the abject entitled Le Strutture Tremano (The structures tremble), which seems to be animated with movement. Sottsass used pastel colours, underscoring his reference to the 1950s and mass production. This piece marks his desire to shake up formal conventions, to shatter the rigor of industrial objects in order to produce new and fluid vibrations in the language of design, with Memphis as its playground.
