With this project, the Aires Mateus brothers brought together two museums in a single cubic space structured around a fissure.
The architects' design for Photo Elysée (Museum for Photography) and the Museum of Contemporary Design and Applied Arts (mudac) fits perfectly into the new landscape of the Lausanne "arts district". The building plays with the elementary geometry of the cube to underline the duality and complementarity of two museums. The treatment of light - zenithal and uniform for Photo Elysée and lateral and punctual for mudac - helps consolidate
the identity of each venue.
