St Stephen’s Green
1962
Jaray creates surprising optical effects in her paintings by repeating simple forms and motifs and by playing with chromatic contrasts.
Tess Jaray developed her visual language in the 1960s. Her abstract works were always based on personal experience and translate the influence of the art and architecture of the Italian Renaissance on her work, particularly the research of the masters of linear perspective. The titles of her works provide clues for their interpretation. For St Stephen's Green, she was inspired by the green roof of the Gothic cathedral in Vienna, the city she came from.
