"Perhaps it's time for us all to study art for the wrong reasons in order to correct them again?" (Waters)
John Waters is an artist and underground filmmaker, and a past master in the art of provocation since the mid-1960s. His works reflect his radical and satirical vision of popular culture. This sculpture is part of a series of six painted panels inspired by a sign for an art school that Waters had seen in Baltimore with the message "Study art, for profit or hobby". He retained this innocently politically incorrect message and parodies it to question the reception of contemporary art.
