Femme dans un jardin
1923
This painting came during the occupation into the possession of Gustav Rochlitz, a Paris-based German art dealer.
Rochlitz was involved in the trafficking of artworks looted by the ERR, the Nazi organ for the confiscation of cultural property. Femme dans un jardin [Women in a Garden] was found in 1945 in one of the many repositories in which Rochlitz dispersed his collection. The work was taken to the Baden-Baden Collecting Point in November 1946 and was repatriated to France by the fifth convoy from this city in December 1948. lt was entrusted it to the Musée National d'Art Moderne by the third Artistic Recovery Commission in December 1949.
