Landlocked, Checkpoint (Unknown & Palestine)
2008
Since 2005, Curtis Mann has been working on an original project based on photography. He has printed a selection of current news images on the Internet, often related to the conflicts in the Near and Middle East, that he then edits and partly covers with a transparent lacquer. After the prints have been soaked in a solution of bleach, they fade without the protection of the lacquer. Through this process in which images are created not by gradual development but by the fading of parts of the images, Curtis Mann proposes a new geography, a different reading of these current news images with assume a different status, half way between drawing and photography, between fact and fiction.
