La baignade
1920 - 1921
Angel Zarraga arrived in France in 1904 after studying at the Mexican School of Fine Arts. He then studied in Brussels, Madrid, Toledo and Florence, learning the techniques of the masters and becoming familiar with fresco painting. He lived in Paris from 1911 to 1940. His work is imbued with both a religious spirit and a Cubist influence, creating a link between antique tradition and a contemporary figurative form. This female nude, making play on basic colours, continues in the line of Delacroix, Courbet and Cézanne.
