Make Your Own Sunshine
2013
Jose Dávila trained in the 1990s as both architect and sculptor. Referencing notably the work of architect Luis Barragán and Minimalist artist Donald Judd, he explores the relationship to space and ephemeral nature of physical structures, paying homage to the Modernist avant-gardes of the 20th century. Recalling a hen in form, Make Your Own Sunshine is one of a series of very colourful spatial constructions of painted metal sections that fit into each other. Here the artist plays on the ambiguous relation between equilibrium and disequilibrium.
