The Bundle Tower, projet présenté au Concours international pour la reconstruction du World Trade Center, New York, Etats-Unis
2002
Foreign Office Architects was founded in London in 1992 by architects Farshid Moussavi and Alejandro Zaera-Polo, the first Iranian, the second Spanish. A radical development in skyscraper typology, the Bundle Center was the firm’s response to the international architectural competition for the reconstruction of the World Trade Center. Standing 500 metres high, the Center has 110 floors on an area of 1,000 m2. The scheme consists of six mutually supporting elements, designed as a single mass and relying on the idea of a continuous transfer of load. Borrowed from the physical sciences, the term “bundle” refers to the assembly of sub-conductors connected in parallel and maintained a constant distance apart. Here the physical continuity of the mass is exploited as a structural advantage.
