Ravéreau went to live permanently in Algeria in 1956 and collaborated with the Agence du Plan d’Alger. In 1960, he began work on the master plan for the M’Zab Valley and the town plan for Ghardaïa. Head Architect for historical monuments as from 1965, he developed a style of architecture in the newly-independent Algeria designed to blend in with the natural environment and local cultures, fostering an aesthetic free from all formalism.
