“It is equivalent that a work is well done, badly done or not done.” (Filliou)A major figure of the Fluxus movement, Robert Filliou based his art on an ideal of constant creation and the simplicity of the materials used. For this work, he conceives an object –a red sock in a wooden box– which he esteems “well done”. He then decides to clumsily recreate it (“badly done”), then produces a third version with just an empty box (“not done”). This leads to a new ensemble, made using the same principle repeated five times from left to right. The work powerfully challenges the traditional system of aesthetic values.
