Carol Marc Lavrillier was born in Paris in 1933, his father being an engraver and his mother a sculptor, a pupil of Bourdelle’s. After studying sculpture and engraving at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in 1955 he took up photography, working notably on Rodin’s La Porte de l’Enfer and making films of Bourdelle’s work. In 1960, he published his first book, Les Peintures murales de Delacroix. As photographer for the magazine L’Œil from 1966 to 1972, he produced reportages on the work of many artists and designers of world renown. From 1980 à 1990, he had a gallery and a publishing house (Editions 666) that promoted emerging photographers, while his own work continued to be exhibited and published. He has had retrospectives both in France and abroad. Carol Marc Lavrillier lives and works in Burgundy.
