Jean Genet parle d'Angela Davis
1970
A few days after the arrest of Angela Davis, a philosophy teacher and member of the Black Panther Party, writer Jean Genet recorded a statement of support denouncing racist politics in the US for French TV. Fearing censorship, he invited Carole Roussopoulos to film his intervention. Her video emphasises a distinct gulf between Genet' s committed speech and the strict gesturesof the TV crew, which asked him to tone it down, thus dampening the spontaneity and anger of the first reading. The sequence was never broadcast, so the Vidéo Out parallel shoot is the only remaining trace.
