Chaise Sum UP
1982
The work of Ronald-Cecil Sportes draws on the examples of Constructivism and of Archigram, the British architectural group of the 1960s and ’70s behind the magazine of the same name. High-tech industrial materials, method, mechanics, and technique are watchwords. In 1982 Sportes designed the Sum UP chair, the lines of whose tubular structure suggest convergence on a vanishing point, the effect of perspective being reinforced by the narrowing of the distance between the legs from front to back. Geometrical in outline, back and seat are curved for comfort.
